Principles of De-Signing:

1) The purpose of de-signing is to protect the landscape from defacement.
Removing, defacing, or destroying advertising signs is solely for the purposes of cleaning up litter and convincing chronic litterbugs to cease littering. We do not attack people or legitimately placed private property, or use these techniques for private grudges.

2) Ask yourself: "Does this sign represent a chronic polluter?"
Small scale, sincerely local, or short term advertising such as garage sales, individual real estate sales, or true neighborhood businesses should not be targeted unless they have truly become abusive of the landscape.

3) Businesses have the right to advertise legitimately.
Signs posted on the advertiser's private property or with the permission of the property owner must be left untouched!

4) We are here to prevent litter. We do not add to it.
If you knock down a sign, pack it out. if you cut a sign in half, remove the debris. If you apply stickers on top of the sign, take responsibility for the paper backing. Don't leave a mess.

5) Removing is best. Defacing is only to be used in the worst cases.
The main point is to clean up the world. Removing signs is always productive. Sometimes the polluter is just too persistant and it becomes necessary to turn their sign into an advertisement for their shame. Use this power wisely — we do not want to become a nuisance to the innocent, just the polluter.
